We are seeking 2 dedicated, skilled and detail-focused Live-out Gardeners to join the gardening team on a prestigious private estate, close to Andover in Hampshire.


With a genuine passion for horticulture and a strong work ethic, you will play a key role in maintaining the beauty and presentation of the Estate’s gardens.


Working under the guidance of the Team Leader, and ultimately reporting to the Head Gardener, you will be responsible for the care and maintenance of a wide range of garden areas, including the Arrival Gardens, Main House and Courtyards, Lawns, Drives and Shrubberies, Visitor and Staff areas, Estate Accommodation, Dairy Zone, Garden Room, Belvedere, Granary and Maze (North and South). From time to time, you may be asked to undertake additional duties as required by the Estate Management Team.


Duties include:


  • Supporting the Team Leader with the planning and delivery of day-to-day garden maintenance
  • Carrying out routine horticultural tasks including watering, weeding, pruning, planting and fertilising
  • Monitoring and controlling pests and diseases
  • Planting, cultivating and maintaining flowers, shrubs, trees and containerised plants
  • Assisting with landscaping and garden improvement projects
  • Maintaining tools, machinery and equipment in safe working order
  • Regularly inspecting all garden areas, including less visible locations, to ensure high standards
  • Maintaining pristine conditions in high-traffic and presentation-critical areas
  • Respecting the privacy and confidentiality of the Estate’s owners, residents and guests at all times


Teamwork and communication


  • Working collaboratively with the wider garden team to ensure efficient operations
  • Communicating clearly with the Team Leader regarding issues, supplies or maintenance needs


Safety and compliance


  • Working in line with health and safety legislation and best practice
  • Reading, understanding and following all risk assessments and safety procedures


Above all, you will help ensure that everyone on the Estate enjoys a welcoming, well-maintained environment, whatever the weather or operational challenges.


Experience and skills required


  • Previous hands-on experience in gardening or landscaping (preferred)
  • Good knowledge of plant care, including glasshouse production and containerised plants
  • Relevant machinery certifications preferred (e.g. compact tractors, utility vehicles, PA1/PA6a)
  • Confident using horticultural power tools
  • Strong attention to detail and high personal standards
  • Good communication skills and a professional manner
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Physically fit and able to undertake manual work
  • Horticultural qualification desirable
  • Full UK driving licence and own car due to location of the property
  • Discrete, reliable, trustworthy and able to maintain confidentiality
  • Proactive, flexible and willing to support other Estate teams when required


Working hours and conditions


  • 5 days per week, 8:00am – 5:00pm
  • Some weekend work required on a rota basis
  • Lunch provided when on duty
  • This role involves physical work including lifting, bending and standing for extended periods, and working outdoors in all weather conditions


Salary: £32,000 – £37,000 gross per annum
