Live-in Family Assistant

We are seeking a proactive and adaptable Live-in Family Assistant with House Management responsibilities to support a warm, informal family of five. The household includes three children aged 7, 10, and 14 (the eldest attends boarding school). You will work alongside a supportive team including a part-time Housekeeper, After-school Nanny, and private Chefs.


This is a varied and hands-on role, ideal for someone who enjoys being involved in all aspects of daily family life and household operations. The right candidate will be practical, well-organised, and happy to muck in where needed.


This position offers an excellent opportunity for a candidate seeking to progress beyond a traditional housekeeping role and take on broader responsibilities within a dynamic household environment.


Key Responsibilities


House Management & Administration


  • Pay invoices and track household expenditure
  • Handle post, including returns and personal shopping (gifts, clothing, toiletries, crockery, etc.)
  • Manage household bookings (restaurants, medical, grooming, entertainment, etc.)
  • Maintain family and household calendars and ensure relevant staff are informed
  • Liaise with and book external service providers (e.g. window cleaners, upholstery specialists)
  • Support with household staff recruitment, onboarding, and informal training
  • Manage staff rotas and coordinate annual leave (in collaboration with the Principal)
  • Oversee day-to-day staff operations
  • Assist with dinner parties and formal gatherings (6+ guests), including table setup


Housekeeping


  • Maintain cleanliness, organisation, and presentation of all rooms in the home
  • Oversee laundry and wardrobe management, including handwashing and dry cleaning
  • Packing/unpacking for family travel
  • Schedule and coordinate deep cleaning while the family is away
  • Stock control and purchasing of household supplies
  • Occasional ad hoc duties (e.g., watering garden, sweeping steps, cleaning outdoor furniture)
  • Cover housekeeping duties during Housekeeper's absence


Childcare Support


  • School runs (twice per week)
  • Provide Saturday care - accompanying to horse riding and then supervision at home/dropping to playdates
  • Occasional homework supervision when the Nanny is away
  • Liaise with schools and attend appointments (medical and otherwise)
  • Drop-off/collection for school and extracurricular activities (local and distance)


Second Property (Norfolk)


  • Coordinate logistics for family visits to their Norfolk home (approx. 3–4 times/year)
  • Manage setup and pack-down
  • Liaise with the Property Manager and Norfolk-based staff


Candidate Requirements

  • Previous experience in a similar family-focused or private household role
  • Confident driver (automatic) – essential
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Discreet, dependable, and flexible in approach
  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively with a wider household team


Working Days: Tuesday – Saturday

Working Hours: 48 per week, depending on the schedule of the family

Trial Period: Required in August

Start Date: September

Accommodation: Live-in (Private large bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette)

Salary: £600–£750 net per week (negotiable) + Annual Reviews
